This is actually a previous bug report that was said to have been fixed a year ago but I literally have the same exact problem today 10/14/25. Here’s what happens:
-
Place a Mp4 video on V1
-
Select it
-
Go to properties, and change its speed.
Expected result: clip shrinks or enlarges accordingly.
Actual result: clip disappears.
Undo brings it back into view.
It’s the same problem from last year. Latest version of Shotcut according to when I try to update my Shotcut.
“STILL in 2025)” and “latest” are not valid versions.
You did not provide your operating system.
I do not reproduce it following your steps on version 25.08. I tested on Linux and macOS.
“STILL IN 2025” was a description of the topic since I couldn’t use the description from the topic from last year in which you told me to reproduce these steps with no instructions.
I do reproduce it following my steps on Shotcut version 25.08.16. I tested on the version of Windows 10 home.
Please order me in next step if no information needed to be added or describe what information to add and where to find as I am not artificial intelligence and just a dumb American.
I’m sorry, I tested it on the latest version of Shotcut which is 25.08.16. Unless there’s another, newer version of Shotcut open to the public which is the newest version. My bad, I wasn’t aware of a new Shotcut update. Do I need to update to 26.0.0 or 25.09? I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled but the latest version is still 25.08.16. What am I doing wrong? How do I get the latest public version?
25.08 is the latest version at this time, but we ask for version information so that we don’t have to lookup the date of the post and assume. Most things are not acted upon at the time they are read. At this point, you can review your steps. I actually need to add initial step: start Shotcut. That might seem stupid to you, but a lot of people are lazy when making steps. They do a bunch of things they did not mention and only mention the one or two steps immediately before the problem. I am starting from fresh, no project loaded. I tested with and without Settings > Timeline > Automatically Add Tracks. “Place a Mp4 video on V1” is vague too. I tested drag-n-drop with ripple turned off as well as Append, both from the clip in Source; however, there are other ways.

Ok, my bad. The clip is in the “playlist.” I drag and drop the clip to any Video line (v1, v2, etc). I click the clip, then click “properties” tabs where the “playlist” is to bring up the clip’s properties. I change the speed from 1 to 5 and the clip disappears. The “auto add tracks” thing in the settings is disabled. Shotcut versions 25.08.16. Windows 10 Home.
