Can several filters applied at same time

Hi all,

Would it be possible applying several filters to the same video simultaneously?

I have made following tests:
1)
Apply filter-1 on a .VOB video and export the edited video as video-1.mp4
Apply filter-2 on video-1.mp4 and export the edited video as video-2.mp4
Apply filter-3 on video-2.mp4 and export the edited video as video-3.mp4
Apply filter-4 on video-3.mp4 and export the edited video as video-4.mp4

4 filters applied
2)
Apply 4 filters of 1) above on the same video, .VOB video simultaneously and export the edited video as video-5.mp4

The quality of video-4.mp4 and video-5.mp4 looks different. The quality of video-4.mp4 is better.

Is there any way applying 4 filters (or several filters) simultaneous on a video, i.e. in one pass?

Furthermore if the order of filters different (say, filter-4, filter-2, filter-1, filter-3) the result is different. The quality of edited video looks differently

Regards

Edit-1

It is not necessary to export the video as .mp4 file. Continue to apply new filter on the edited video but don’t forget to de-select previous filters.

Edit-2

Apply “sharpen” filter at start first.

I’m testing old video captured 34 years ago.

Edit-3

I have performed another test on another VOB video on the same DVD

Filters applied
Brightness 175%
Contrast 34%
Color Grading
Shadows (Left) 36%
Midtones (Gamma) 24%
Highlights (Gain) 6,5%
White Balance 11,000
Hue/Lightness/Saturation
Hue -5
Lightness 117
Saturation 111
Sharpen
Amount 59.6%
Size 63,2%

Sharpen filter comes the last

The test result is excellent. I have a nice video with reduced size to 561.0 MB. The original video size is 1.1GB.

A small section of the edited video is a little bid dark because of insufficient light. I’m considering to treat this section separately, by trimming this section. But how to copy the trimmed section? Please advise.

I have done a stupid way on another video before running another NLE software.
Delete other unwanted sections
Export the trimmed section as .mp4 file and edit it separately
Import the edited .mp4 file back to NLE software
Restore the deleted sections of the original video by;
→ Edit → Undo
It worked for me before. I don’t know whether I can repeat this way on Shotcut?

Please advise. Thanks

Most people Split the clip at the beginning and end of that section.

Hi@shotcut

Sorry I don’t follow. The trimmed section which I need to treat is in the middle of that section, not at the beginning.

How to copy that section to be treated separately? Thanks

“Split” is something very specific, a basic, essential timeline command. Also, there are Copy and Paste commands. So, you can add a timeline track, copy the clip with that special section, paste the copied clip on the new video track above, and trim it down to that section. If you still do not understand, then I suggest to watch some tutorials about the basics of using Shotcut.

Just a quick tip: you almost never need to export a video to be able to continue adding filters on top. Your clip can be separated into however smaller pieces you want in the editor (via the Split action) and every section will have it’s own separate filters.
In fact if you split a clip that has filters already, it will still keep those original filters so you can add a new one which will only affect that section.

You only export to mp4 at the very end the entire timeline.

Here’s a quick demo of a clip (I just used a basic color clip) that I add a few filters then split into 3 and then only add another filter on the middle part. You can keep splitting like this new sections that need a special filter to fix something for only that section.

HI@daniel47,

Thanks for your advice and link.

Finally I know that I can continue to apply filters, one after another not necessary to export the video. But I can’t apply all selected filters in one pass, i.e. in one click.

But how to export them as .mp4 files so that I can enhance them separately. After finish I need to combine them as a complete video
