Calling all Aegisub users?

Hi, I downloaded the captions.sbv from Youtube in English, on a video that is already uploaded with no Closed-Caption. The goal is to translate the English captions.sbv file into a second language, using Aegisub to do search and replace of manually corrected words, so I don’t have to keep fixing the same words though the transcript. I’m not really ready to edit the sbv on the timeline in Shotcut, but has a member got experience with Aegisub so I can set up macros ?

I have an AI translation service, but it’s taking a bad English timestamped transcript and translating it into French, which has words that will be wrong as Youtube translates unclear words best it can, phonetically even though they make no sense. e.g. Cairo becomes Kai, or an Egyptian pharaoh Seqenenre becomes Sir Ken Ray and AI translation makes no changes to it.

I realise this is not Shotcut-related, but I wonder if Aegisub can help where I can add the sbv translated caption file to the Shotcut timeline?

Maybe I am overthinking this, please help me.

TIA

SBV files are plain text files, like many subtitle formats. I guess I’m not understanding why search and replace has to be done with Aegisub. What about a normal text editor search and replace directly on the SBV file?

I thought to edit the misspelling/mistranslations in Aegisub and use a macro search/replace so it corrects all occurrences. I guess any plain text editor can do that, now you explained it.
