I’m having trouble with a project from 2024. I tried adding “simple text” using the 2026 version, but Shotcut stubbornly refuses to add this text to the timeline. I tried the same thing by downloading the 2024 version of Shotcut, with the same result.
Why? Did I do something wrong?
In previous SC versions, in the “Filters” section, when I needed a filter, I would type the first letter of the filter name in the search bar, and it would appear. In the latest versions of Shotcut, this tool no longer works; I have to scroll through all the filters to find the one I’m looking for. Is this a bug or an intentional change?
It sounds like you’re not doing anything wrong. In newer versions of Shotcut, “Simple Text” is a filter that must be added to a clip that’s already on the timeline, not directly to an empty timeline. Make sure you first place a video clip or use an Open Other > Color clip, then select that clip and add the text filter to it. If nothing is selected, Shotcut won’t apply the filter.
As for the filter search behavior, many users have noticed the search box doesn’t auto-focus the same way it used to. In some recent builds you need to manually click inside the search field before typing. It doesn’t seem to be intentional removal, more like a UI behavior change. If it’s not responding at all even after clicking the search box, that could indicate a minor bug in your specific build.
It is not supposed to unless you click + or the Filters is open and you press F.
@Epsilon85 I am assuming you are not an idiot and are actually typing in the search box when you try to search. Otherwise, some keystrokes will trigger edits and cause all sorts of problems.
Hello, I did this using the “Revo uninstaller” application, then once SC was uninstalled I restarted my computer, then reinstalled SC but nothing works for the filter search.
Thank you for the advice, actually by clicking on the space bar before typing the two letters of the search filter it works very well.
Do you mean click the search box?
Like I said, click + in Filters gives the search box the focus. However, if you do something to change focus like click one of these:
Then, you do need to click inside “search” to give it focus since clicking a button gives it the focus (hidden). With a UI like Shotcut where many things are in the window at the same time, if you need text to go into a text field you must ensure it has focus first! Shotcut has many single letter global shortcuts that affect various things such as playback and editing, which is commonplace in multi-track video editors.
