BRAW decoding support

Hello, I would like to add decoding support for Blackmagic BRAW video format. They have free SDK available. Can I somehow add decoder to shotcut? Where to start? I have some skills in C++ coding.

Perhaps look into ffmpeg their mailing list possibly their IRC channel. I know the reddit sub has very insightful answers to the most curly questions.
