How do we insert a “slug” or blank clip in Shotcut like on FCP?

Just let a “space” on the timeline
Or click on open / other / color.
Or create a png and add it (it can be usefull to have a transparent one to add text an an effect ont it)…

Let me add to @Keno40’s message. To add a black color clip, use File > Open Other > Color, trim to the duration you want in the Source player, and insert it. Or, if you already have footage in the Source player with enough duration, insert it on the Timeline, and then Lift it.
