I’m trying to figure out what’s the best Prores preset/codec to use for 1min long looping animations without the file being absolutely massive. I can’t seem to figure it out. The animations at DCI 4K as well, and tend to be rather colorful, if that matters.
ProRes by nature is large because it is a visually lossless compression. There is no control other than to use a lower profile. See About Apple ProRes - Apple Support
After choosing a ProRes preset in Shotcut, use Export > Other and change vprofile
to 0 for proxy or 1 for LT. Remember, the Shotcut export preset has a tool tip to provide a reminder how to change the profile even if 0 and 1 are not mentioned.
Would lowering quality help, or is that not advisable?
If you mean in the codec tab of export, that has no effect on ProRes.
Alright ty ty!
Alright so I still ended up with a 20GB .mov file for a 1min long video, even when I put 1 in the vprofile.
Is that normal? I need it to be under 5GB.
Edit: Perhaps I should shorten the video? Even the DN&HD HQ preset gave me a 13GB file.
Edit Again: 15 second video with ProRes 422 is 9GB. 422 LT gave a 7.37GB file. Not bothering with Proxy.
DNxHR HQ at 15seconds gave me a 3.36GB file. Perhaps I should stick with that codec.
