Automatically dissolve transition slides

Is it possible to create automatic transitions between png image slides? i.e. dropping slides on to the timeline and have it automatically dissolve into the next/previous one. I have 100 images and would prefer not to drag every single slide over the previous one. It will take an age! Thank you.
