Hi there,
I just installed Shotcut 16.06 on windows 7 machine. When I press help/upgrade at the bottom I got message: "Failed to read version.json when checking. Click here to go to the website.
We received another report about this, but it works for me on multiple machines in multiple locations. Not sure what is wrong. Thanks for the notice, though. More than one person experiencing this means it is more than an anomaly.
Hey @john827472 you see this?
Could either one of you trigger the update check and when it fails, check the end of View > Application Log… for a message?
My only hunch at this point is that Amazon CloudFront is issuing a redirect for some visitors, and I know this code does not follow redirects. I can add that, but a warning message would help. Thanks
Hey,
I just installed last version on different machine (Windows 10 64 bit) with the same problem. Here is the end of app log:
Thank you

Yup, got those same warnings with a couple more preceding them that look like they’re related.

Hmmm, I see that pasting directly from the log crops the tags. I’ve attached an excerpt that should show the actual full entries, in case it matters.

Today I installed v 16.06 on sixteen computers (Windows 7 64 bit) (using Shotcut in education) and the funny thing is that on some computers automatic upgrade works on some of them do not.
OK, I understand what is going on now, and I will come up with some kind of fix.
@martin106015 and @john827472 You can test an interim build that should have fixed this:

When I first start Shotcut, I still just see an ellipsis instead of the notification to click here to check for upgrade availability.
However, either clicking on that or Help->Upgrade does successfully run the check now and the link does work.
“Still?” You did not mention that before as far as I can see, and there is no recent change since 16.06.08 that can possibly cause that in case that was a typo. I have never experienced this problem. I wonder if there is something about your layout that triggers it. Can you please provide a shot of the entire window? Thanks
Yes, sorry, I did not mention that in my first report. It looked that way when the problem first showed up. When I saw the warning that resulted when I clicked on it, I thought it was related to that, so I didn’t think it was important.
I did some experimentation with the layout and closing some docks makes a difference. I should have thought of that sooner.
Edit: I don’t know if it matters or not, but the machine in question is dual boot and I have a very similar window arrangement on my Xubuntu side but I don’t have the issue there.
Hi, for me automatic upgrade works fine in this version
