Audio sync

Hello Shotcut community. I am a new user and so far I have been thrilled with its capabilities. I am cutting a movie form my choirs concert. It was made with two cameras. The audio was recoreded separately with the lap top and proper mics. Since the lighting in the hall was bad, I first wanted to tweek some brightness and constrast on both cameras, and replace the camera audio with mp3. Afterwards I exported separately both cameras with the audio, in order to cut the movie in a separate file. My test exports were just fine. All of a sudden, after some additional changes, there is a significant delay in exported mp4, although everything seems fine in shotcut. Some previous backups dont have the same problem. I have read similar topics, but counldt find any solution. Now I stumbeld over the option to assign a track to a video segment in the properties dialogue. I muted the audio track and the export seems to be fine. Since I have defenetely some 100 segments, I would have to to this manually to each of them. That would be the problem at all, if this is a work around. By the way, both videos and the audio are in 25 fps, if that is relevant. As mentioned, I am cutting mp4s that were already exported from shotcut. For any hints and ideas I would be very thankfull.

Can you explain what you mean by “delay in exported mp4”? Is the audio delayed from the video?

Sometimes we see this when the source files are Variable Frame Rate. Maybe some ideas here:

I also wonder how you synchronized the audio recorded from the laptop with the video. Did you happen to use the Timeline > Align To Reference Track

Hi Brian. Thanks for your response. I aligned the audio manually. Still not familiar with all possibilities. In the exported mp4, audio has some small but unpleasant delay. In shotcut everything seems fine. As mentioned, one solution for me is to mute the main audio track and assign the track to the video in the properties. This is unfortunately a bit stiff solution but it works. I am still not sure what that really does.

I am puzzled because my previous backups don’t have that problem. Unfortunately, in the preview in shotcut no delay can be seen. But, when I now play both the video with attached audio AND the audio track, small delay can be heard. So for this project, this work around might work, but since I am totally in love with Linux AND Shotcut, I have to be able to avoid this inconveniences . Thanks in advance!

I can understand your problem, Svarokles. The audio delay might be because your video has Variable Frame Rate (VFR). You can try converting the video to Constant Frame Rate before adding it to Shotcut, as VFR can cause sync issues.
