Audio problems with new version

I have been using shotcut for years to make simple videos. After downloading the latest version when I
try to add an audio track it splits the video track. I have tried different videos and mp3. The space left in the video track cannot be removed or can I pull the video into place.

I have uninstalled the new version and restarted my computer before downloading again but the problem is still there with the new version. What am I doing wrong?
