Audio forwarding when paused.

Good morning, everyone!

I’m having a problem that hasn’t happened since I started using ShotCut. It started a few days ago. When I pause and play an audio file already added to the timeline, it doesn’t resume from where it paused; it fast-forwards a few milliseconds. Sometimes I cut the audio, and it doesn’t cut properly; the beginning of the second part isn’t at the end of the first. If I pause and play several times, the video keeps fast-forwarding, and the end of the timeline goes silent because it advances so much. During testing, I noticed that this only happens with .wav files (it’s normal with .mp3). I can convert the files and “solve” the problem, but that would be extra work.

I use Windows 11, and my software is version 25.08.16.

I made a video to demonstrate the problem.

Thanks for the demonstration video. Can you upload your .wav file so I can try to reproduce the problem? If it is small enough, you can upload it as an attachment to this forum.

I did not reproduce it in version 25.10 (just released). I used the new Text To Speech in Subtitles to make the .WAV. I uploaded a project. Maybe the bug is specific to certain audio sampling attribute, or maybe it is not really a typical PCM WAV and contains compression. The text-to-speech feature makes 24 KHz stereo PCM.

Sure! I’ll send it to you. I did some tests and noticed that when converting from .wav to .mp3 the file changes completely.

  • In .wav, it has an empty ending, in .mp3 it doesn’t.
  • In .wav the timeline waves aren’t the same as the audio, in .mp3 it’s perfect.

Well, I believe the problem is in the file itself, not the software.

I’m glad you got it working. I agree - it sounds like something about the .wav file is triggering a problem. The file you uploaded is the .mp3 file - so I can’t reproduce a problem with that. If you upload a .wav file, I can try to find the root problem.

Oh, sorry. I’ll upload the right file.

Edit: .wav files it’s blocked here

You need to zip it
