I’ve used shotcut for a while and I started having an issue where i upload a video file but the audio does not show up. I made sure “Show Audio Waveforms” is turned on and rebuilding audio makes it show back up again, but only temporarily. If i create a split in the video, the audio dissapears again and I’m not sure what is causing it to happen.

Does it still happen if you restart Shotcut, open the same project, go to roughly the same time, and split?
yes i tried closing shotcut and reopening to the same results, including completely deleting the project and proxies and starting a new one. But same results. I even tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it to no change.
I am wondering if Windows such as Windows Security > Controlled folder access is blocking Shotcut from writing its waveform cache file to disk. That path is available through Settings > App Data Directory > Show. The “thumbnails” sub-folder contains both thumbnails and waveform data. You can sort this by date descending to see if there have been files created recently.
I think this was it. I believe while shotcut was creating a proxy for the file, something interrupted the job, causing shotcut to fail to finish creating it, which prevented the audio from showing up
