Hi guys, may i know which options in the audio codec setting should i choose for the audio to be as close to the original video? The default is AAC, but there’s also a Default for Format option. I set audio sample rate and bit rate according to original.
AAC is better than mp3. For MKV or webm Vorbis is more commonly used. Both are a good choice!
Sorry, do you mean “Default for Format” is mp3? So if exporting if mp4, i should choose for aac than “Default for Format” in the audio codec setting?
No, mp3 is an bad outdated but still commonly used format for audio files. AAC or AC3 are their much better successor. Vorbis and the apple audio codec are also very similar and do perform well.
Opus is now officially supported in MP4. It is sonically better than everything listed so far. However, if maximum compatibility on mobile devices doing direct playback is needed, then use AAC. If uploading to YouTube, then Opus or lossless will give best results. It is called “libopus” in the Shotcut audio export panel.
