Anyone else have a problem with glow.dll?

Hello,

I’ve been using Shotcut for about two years on Windows 11. I’ve had zero problems until today.

I just tried exporting a podcast I was editing. Windows delivered this notification when I started the export.

Part of this app has been blocked

Some features of C:\Users\MYUSER\AppData\Local\Programs\Shotcut\melt.exe may not work because we can’t confirm who published glow.dll that the app tried to load.

I found glow.dll in

C:\Users\MYUSER\AppData\Local\Programs\Shotcut\lib\frei0r-1

and checked it with Virustotal, FWIW. It was clean and had the same date as the other DLLs in the directory.

I’ve worked in security for almost 30 years, and I just happened to completely reinstall Windows on this computer a couple weeks ago. I also heavily monitor my home environment so I’m pretty sure I’m not compromised.

The main difference I can think of is that this is the first time I’ve exported audio since updating to Shotcut 26.1.30.

Yesterday I exported a video and didn’t have any issues.

melt.exe ended up hanging, but I was able to end it.

My export of the .wav failed but the .mp3 succeeded.

Has anyone else seen something like this?

Thanks.

I only codesign the executables including the installer, not DLLs. I do not know why it said this and have not experienced it. Maybe if you install a new version over an existing one and depending upon the state of antivirus scanning having checked it yet or not.

Thanks for responding! I think Windows is being a little aggressive here because the DLL is unsigned, it’s in the %APPDATA% directory, and it’s a new install. I do wonder if we’ll see more of this as Windows continues to improve its security. Thanks for your work on Shotcut! It’s awesome software.

BTW, I forgot to ask – is there anything different about the way a wav is exported vs a mp3? Does wav use glow.dll but mp3 does not?
