If the clips that moved were in the track you copied to then you have “Ripple” set.
If the clips that moved were in a different track from the one you copied to then you have both “Ripple” and “Ripple All Tracks” set.

Paste (V) will move clips after to the right on the same track,
Overwite (B) will not move anything
Ripple Delete (x) will move clips after to the left
Lift (Z) will delete clip and leave whitespace and clip to the right will not move
if ripple all tracks is enabled then other tracks will be moved when using V and X
