Adding extra length to picture / crossfades which new video part in middle

Hello,

I have two problems for which I didn’t find a solution here.

  1. I have a video which begins with a welcome picture. After that, the main video parts start. Now I want to add audio to it and I found out that the picture needs to be displayed longer. Instead of 4 seconds it should show 10 seconds.
In shotcut I am not able to make the length longer, the value in properties always jumps back to old value.
    How to do it?

  2. I want to add a video clip in the middle of the video. I also noted that I need to make it longer there because I will talk more in this area of video.
Sure I can split video there and add a new video part.
But the main problem is, it is not possible to do crossfades between the new video part and both existing parts. I don’t want to move ALL other video parts after this part. This will take too much time to edit everything again…
How to crossfade these 3 video parts in the middle of whole video?

Hi @AndreasM82

1- Extend the duration of an image.

You can easily extend the duration of any image clip by grabbing and pulling on its right side border in the timeline:

If there are other clip past your image on the same track, and you want those clips to move as you extend the image, turn ON Ripple:

If there are other clips past your image on the same track AND on other tracks, turn ON Ripple AND Ripple All Tracks:

Don’t forget to turn OFF the 2 Ripples after you’re done.

2- Insert a clip in a gap and create transitions.

  • Create an empty track on top of the timeline
  • Bring your new clip on the track.
Make sure that clip is longer than the gap you want to fill
  • Position the clip above the the gap, making sure parts of the clip extends on both sides of the gap, at least as long as the transitions you want to make.
  • Trim the clip on both sides until it fits the duration of the gap.
  • Move the clip inside the gap.
  • Grab each end of the clip to create the two transitions.

Hope this was what you asked for

Wow, many thanks for this detailed manual how to solve my problems!

Now I am a little bit sad that I didn’t found it out by myself.

For first problem, ok this was easy

Second one, I also had some idea to create second video track - but I hoped there is a way with only one track.

Thanks again!
