Adding a separate clip to an almost finished project

HI,

I have a project that is almost an hour long and almost completely done. I have one last clip saved separately as a different file I want to bring into this project. I have the separate clip exported and named.

I created an extra video track for this extra clip in the project. When I try to bring the clip into the project I have, …instead of just dragging the clip into the project, the whole project disappears and just the clip is there.

I need the project to not go anywhere so I can put the extra clip in. I used to know how to do that but forgot.
