A (append) changes Track after pasting

What is your operating system?
Windows 10

What is your Shotcut version (see Help > About Shotcut)? Is it 32-bit?
20.11.28

Can you repeat the problem? If so, what are the steps?
(Please be specific and use the names as seen in Shotcut, preferably English. Include a screenshot or screen recording if you can. Also, you can attach logs from either View > Application Log or right-click a job and choose View Log.)

  1. Create 3 video tracks.
  2. Put a clip on track v1, v2, Add text clip to V3
  3. Click Track v3 so it is highlighted.
  4. Select the text clip on top track V3 and click copy Icon
  5. Press A
Clip appends to end of last clip on track V3 as expected.
But now Track V2 is now the highlighted track.
Press A and the clip appends to Track V2
After Pressing A, you have to remember to click back on Track 3

Note:
Also happens with video clips but not always.
Also moves down all the tracks but not always.

Compare with B (Insert at playhead).

  1. Create 3 video tracks.
  2. Put a clip on track v1, v2, Add text clip to V3
  3. Click Track v3 so it is highlighted.
  4. Select the text clip on top track V3 and click copy Icon
  5. Position Playhead after last clip on track
  6. Press B
Clip Pasted at Play head as expected.
Track V3 is still the highlighted track.

The changing track after pressing A means I end up repeatedly deleting clips pasted to the end of the wrong track.

Please fix Pressing A so it does not change the selected track after pasting.

You’re using Append as Paste. Paste is V.

Same as this for reference.

Three “Paste” options.
Paste (Cntrl+V) or paste icon, which inserts at the playhead and the rest shifts right.
Append (A) or + icon which appends to the last clip on the current track.
Overwrite (B) which inserts at the playhead overwriting anything else (if there is a enough space it doesn’t shift other clips right).

My problem is with using A - it appends to the last clip on the current track and then changes to the track below - but not always.

Append is a valid action at this time, not only paste.

Same for me.
As i didn’t find this report, i wrote another one.
But in addition i got a similar behaviour when changing the in and out point of clips on the timeline when pressing ‘i’ and ‘o’.
Here is the link to make it easier to track.

I can repeat this easily - I have been adding lyrics to songs and having set up the text clip for the first verse I copy and append it multiple times.

Text clips are usually v3.
Video v2
Background on v1

@shotcut, I can confirm that this is a bug. Here is a demo. It’s very annoying.

Happens to me too, usually after copying an earlier timeline clip into Source, then appending it to the track end. The selected track changes upward for me, like from V1 to V2. A typical use case is copying a lower third overlay from earlier, to be reused above a later clip. But I can’t append twice without the track changing and appending to the wrong track.

For clarity, this is keyboard a append, not paste.

This is fixed for the next version 21.02
