I have the same thing happen to me frequently (I’m on 21.12.24 on an old CPU, Win 10, Proxy on for editing).
For me crashes mostly happen when I move partial clips between tracks (I estimate 1 crash for every 20-30 moves, but I can’t see a pattern). It rarely seems to happen w stills or solid colors … and I don’t think I ever had a crash when moving audio (also never happened on a copy (move only). This leads me to believe that the video aspect of it may have something to do with it.
I’ve always blamed it on my old hardware, and started saving more often - especially when I’m about to start moving a lot of clips.
Recovering from a crash has led to my mtl files getting corrupted to the point that the project assumes my proxies are the original file (so it renders in 360p quality, despite a 1080p setting). I explain how I fix it here.
But I still have no clue as to why it happens or how I can prevent it.
