Video taken landscape opens in portrait orientation in Shotcut

Two videos I shot on my Android phone (by holding the phone horizontally) opens in Shotcut in a portrait orientation. Being a newbie, I’m still struggling to understand how to rotate it and scale it appropriately. I did get it to display in Shotcut as landscape but it isn’t that easy yet for me using filters and scaling.

Any suggestions for an easier way how to rotate video in Shotcut or rotating before opening it in Shotcut?

I realise this is an old post, but it was something I wanted to find out today after facing the same situation.
I used Handbrake’s (https://handbrake.fr) rotate filter, and than after loading the processed clip into my Shotcut timeline, I changed the aspect ratio to 16:9 in the clip’s properties.
It worked out very well with a proper landscape, 16:9 ratio window.
