Video keeps pausing when dragging playhead

I don’t remember having this problem before.

If I press play and then drag the playhead on the timeline, the video pauses.

How can I have the video keep playing after dragging?

This is the way it is, always has been, and cannot be changed. Use keyboard shortcuts Space or L to resume playback for faster work.
