Video clips ends at .29 seconds?

Apologies in advance if this is a dumb question, I’m new to video editing.

I’m editing a video of 5 second video clips put together one after the other (no fading). When my video clip is only 5 seconds long, the playhead only play up to 4.29.

When I put two 5 second video clips together, the playhead seems to play up to 4.29 seconds and then jumps to 5.00 seconds, where the second clip begins.

Does the last .31 seconds of a clip get deleted? Should I cut my videos to 5.31 if I want my video clips to be 5 seconds each?

Time Format in Shotcut:
HH:MM:SS:FF
Hours:Minutes:Seconds:Frames
00:00:00:01 Is frame #1 with any video mode.

  • Clip of 4:29 (with a video mode of 30fps) is 5.0 seconds

    • 30 frames per second
  • Clip of 4:29 (with a video mode of 60fps) is 4.5 seconds

    • 60 frames per second

Look at what happens after 3:29, the next frame will be 4:00.

I’m assuming 30fps, or really 29.999999 which for this case can be rounded to 30.

Just like your alarm clock that shows HH:MM will show 00-59 even though there are 60 minutes in an hour.
