Urgent message for @shotcut - I’ve been working with 24-09-13 for two days and encountered a serious problem twice now (failure to load a project which becomes corrupt) that I think you should know about - here’s what happens:
I created a project (complex, with lots of tracks, imported mp4s, images, and many text:simple clips).
Saved OK.
Loaded back several times when I needed to do more work on it.
THEN - for no apparent reason, SC wouldn’t load at all. Strange behaviour in the Shotcut icon on taskbar - a deep blue line appears under the icon, then Shotcut crashes without loading - then Shotcut tries to load again but fails.
It appears the project is now corrupt and won’t open at all. I reverted back to 24-08 - and the project won’t open with that version either.
I’m really sorry but I can’t seem to put my finger on a specific action I did in SC which caused it - other than that it was a project originally created in 24-08. I had no problems like this with version 24-08.
Just posting this urgently to help you in case you are getting further reports of this serious problem.
I made a screen capture of trying to open the corrupt project. I have reverted back to 24-08 but it does the same behaviour in 24-08 now.
Then I looked at my “Everything search” and searched for MLT files and got:
I created a new project in this version on Windows, added a bunch of stuff across 3 tracks, and saved it. I have been opening, changing things, and saving it repeatedly about 10 times now without a problem. I suspect there is a problem specific to this project that is hard to find.
If you did not turn off backups, you can see if File > Previous Versions shows an older version that still loads.
That is Windows tell you which application is open (gray short line) and which is current (long blue line).
Ok @shotcut, that makes sense. I marked it urgent because I wondered if you had several reports of this in view of the latest update - eg you updated to MLT v. 7.28.0, for example.
I’ll look into it asap and try to remember if there’s anything in my (complex) project that may likely be the cause. I’ll try to find a previous version that worked, too, tomorrow if possible. Thanks.
Hi @shocut, thank you. Attached: 2 MLT files. The 01PP2 file loads OK; the 01PP333 file was an amended version of 01PP2 but doesn’t load. Both had a subtitle track which I deleted. Could this perhaps be part of the problem I wonder? JonRay MLT files.zip (9.6 KB)
PS Here’s my final “Top of the World” video if you are interested. 100% Shotcut, of course!
And thanks @shotcut and @brian for helping me to get 1.08K subscribers on YouTube on my flute music channel!
