Updating Thumbnails Cache

Hello,
Today installed the new version 21.08.29. On the first run there was a small window saying something like “Wait… Updating Thumbnails Cache…” .I cannot remember I saw it in previous version.
What is it ? Where is it and what for is it ? Just some explanations please.
Answers will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi @Motim
See the note at the bottom of this page, bellow Fixes

Hello,
Thanks for the prompt answer.
OK, I read where you pointed and found those thumbnails and the other file/folder.
But still, just curious, what is the use of it ? What happens if I delete them ?
Answers will be appreciated.

A cache, according to Wikipedia, “is a hardware or software component that stores data so that future requests for that data can be served faster.”

Where is it

Info is in the FAQ. I will update that later to say “cache” instead of “database.”

Shotcut has always had a cache for storing thumbnails and waveform data. Previously, it was in a single database file (SQLite), but that database cannot be used by multiple running instances of Shotcut. Version 21.08 changes it from a database to a bunch of files in a folder so that multiple Shotcut processes run better. This can be very helpful when using the new system clipboard feature to copy and paste between them. From the release notes:

  • Changed the storage for thumbnails and waveforms to use files instead of database.
  • Added support for the operating system clipboard when copying and pasting filters.
  • Added support for the operating system clipboard when cut, copy, paste, overwrite or append a clip.

Hello,
Thanks a lot for the detailed answer.
Thanks
Motim
