I am using Ubuntu 16.04, 64-bit, with NVIDIA driver 340.101 for my Nvidia GeForce GTX 285M video card.
Have installed the most recent snap of shotcut. After starting /snap/bit/shotcut from the terminal, I see:
failed to load driver: swrast and Unrecognized OpenGL version
Could you point me in the right direction? I can’t seem to find which opengl files are the culprits.

This is no longer a problem for me. I uninstalled the snap, downloaded the shotcut.tar.bz2 file and am running the application from there.
There is a known issue with snaps, OpenGL, and the nvidia binary driver. Here is a bug report with a workaround: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snap-confine/+bug/1615248
