Thumbnails disappeared and no option "update thumbnail"

WIth Shotcut 20.11.28, WIndows 8.1

Thumbnails are visible on the clips in playlist. but not in any timeline clip. How to get them back?
And, there is no option “restore thumbnails” in their context-menu; This option of context menu exists only the playlist-items. They disappeared a one moment in and did not reappear with installing beta-Version 8.21.01.16

I transferred my project onto the same/latest version of Shotcut on a different computer. After telling the software where to find the media it loaded them and displayed the project. Although the thumbnails are not all showing. In the playlist I was able to rectify this by pressing ‘update thumbnail’ and it refreshed a whole bunch of them that are now visible.
