"This application failed to start"

One day, I decided to test out Shotcut. I opened it, and there was something that said: “Click here to get the newest version of Shotcut.” I did, and it redirected me to the official site. (The one I’m on) I wanted to download the newest version, but something went wrong and I had to cancel the installation.

Now, whenever I try to open Shotcut, I always get the message “This application failed to start because it could’nt find or load the Qt platform plugin “windows” in “”. Reinstalling this application may fix the problem.”

After that, I get “This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application’s support team for more information.”

Honestly, all of this kind of scares me, especially the message about the termination and all. Is the only solution to uninstalling Shotcut? Please inform me of an answer as soon as possible. I really want to use a video editing program without any issues.

Uninstall and install the latest version from shotcut.org. In case uninstall is not available for some reason, simply locate the Shotcut program folder and delete it.

Shotcut is not without issues. That is probably true about almost any video editing program to be honest. However, it is all relative. At least, you can try Shotcut for free and decide for yourself.

I did what you suggested, and it worked. Thank you very much for the help! I really appreciate it. I’ll know better next time and take your advice again if I need it.

(And you’re right about video editing programs not being error-free. If I do run into a few minor issues while using Shotcut, I’ll find a way to fix them)
