Shotcut started crashing repeatedly on macOS

I am sorry for repeating this but I realised I needed to do it by answerting the questions asked.

What is your operating system?
Macbook. Mojave 10.14.3

What is your Shotcut version (see Help > About Shotcut)?

I tried the latest version also. But it kept quitting unexpectedly.

Can you repeat the problem? If so, what are the steps?
(Please be specific and use the names as seen in Shotcut, preferably English. Include a screenshot or screen recording if you can. Also, you can attach logs from either View > Application Log or right-click a job and choose View Log.)

The app shuts down unexpectedly. It invariably happens soon after I try to add files to the timeline from the playlist.

I am basically only trying to convert MP3 to MP4 using Shotcut by adding images.

I was working with the above Shotcut version from March onwards without any problem.

Now suddenly it starts quitting unexpectedly.

This happens after I add MP3 to audio. Or sometimes it allows me to add audio but soon after when I try to add something in the video, it crashes.

I downloaded the latest version but it kept crashing. I trashed and reinstalled again and again but without any luck.

I tried reinstalling the older version above but it keeps crashin.

Reboot and try again.
There is no install on macOS other than to drag the new version into Applications. You can rename the current Applications/Shotcut to something like “Shotcut 22.12” etc. and keep multiple versions. I have a shotcut folder in my home directory where I keep many older versions. I strongly suggest when switching between versions 22 and 23 that you do not try to overwrite the previous one already in Applications.
If all of the above fails, see the page Shotcut - Configuration Keys for details about where the configuration file exists on macOS. Then, you can try to rename it so Shotcut can no longer find it and creates a new one. Maybe, this will help, but if not you can rename it back to restore it. (FYI, Settings > Reset… in Shotcut’s menu is a much simpler way to clear the configuration if you do not want to mess around with configuration files.)

Thank you so much. I could not post earlier but wanted to say that I was able to resolve the problem fortuitously when I hard booted twice, trashed the earlier versions on the computer (since there seems no other way to uninstall) and then reinstalled the December 2022 version. So far it’s working just the way it used to. Thank you for all your detailed instructions. I will be sure to make use of them, should I ever have this problem again (though I hope not).
