Hi ! I use self compiled Shotcut on Linux Mint (Xfce), HP Laptop 8GB RAM + 8GB SWAP and a NVIDIA GeForce 2GB dedicated graphic card. Main rush are 1080p videos (.mts panasonic AVCHD format), 540p preview works well even if it’s a bit laggy playing through a cut, an effect or a transition. An Undo can also freeze or crash the app but nerver mind, I save frequently and reload it in this case.
To minimize your frustration :
- try what bentacular suggests : proxies
- or convert previously your rushes all in the same format mp4 with same fps
- or work with shorter videos by dividing your project in several parts. This is my favorite solution above when I want to add tracking effects.
