Shotcut freezes

Whenever I load a video to shotcut it tells me it’s ‘not responding’. That happens often. Is there a solution to that?

It could be any number of things. Tell us more about your system.

What is your operating system?

What is your Shotcut version (see Help > About Shotcut)? Is it 32-bit?

Can you repeat the problem? If so, what are the steps?
(Please be specific and use the names as seen in Shotcut, preferably English. Include a screenshot or screen recording if you can. Also, you can attach logs from either View > Application Log or right-click a job and choose View Log.)

People will also want to know your system specifications - like how much RAM does your system have.

Do you have a certain video file where that never happens?
What happens after showing the not responding message? Does it go away after a few seconds?

Goes away after 20-30 seconds then when I do anything else it happens again.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that Shotcut is only using ~15% of the CPU when it stops responding.

In the menu choose Settings > Reset…, restart, and see if it is any better. If not, then it just does not work on your machine for whatever reason (too difficult to diagnose) and maybe the next version for which there is a beta download available will work better.

Where is the Beta version located? I’ll try that out and see what happens.

I have also heard of this happening if someone is storing their media on a network share or removable device.

The beta solved the problem

That’s great to hear. We were hoping some changes in this version would improve compatibility on some Windows systems.
