Shotcut crash when saving immediately after opening

Opened Shotcut and pressed Ctrl + S. Hit Enter and Shotcut crashes every time. I don’t know much about software bugs but maybe that’s useful to know.

Unable to reproduce on Windows 10 64 bit. When you hit Ctrl-S to save, do you get a window popup at all? By default you should have a file window open so you can put a name and location to your file, even if you don’t have any project data. Attempting to save from there just says “Unable to save empty file.” No crash.

My guess is that your installed Shotcut goes ahead with a save attempt before showing this window, and therefore you won’t get the message. But if you do get the save window then I’m not sure where the problem could be coming from. Perhaps you may have installed an unsupported version?

Edit: I updated to 16.11 and the problem has gone away. Sorry for not checking this first.

Hi Lauren. The version is 16.04.01. When I save I get the expected window asking me to specify a location and filename and when I click save, the program then crashes. I made a brief video of it:
