Rotate Video Filter Question

Hello comrades. I have a video recorded on a smart phone but it is showing rotated vertically when I try to view it. I want to rotate it 270 degrees so it is horizontal but it then it has black areas above and below. See attachment. What is the proper procedure to do what I need.? Thank you. Kind regards, Honk

Use Properties > Rotation to fix that, not a filter

And use a horizontal Settings → Video Mode (you have 320x568 @24fps for some reason).

Thanks! for that, however, there are still the black spaces above and below. I went looking around and found the “video mode” setting. I created a custom one that matched the frame w&h in the original video’s properties and reversed it to match the rotated video. Does that sound like the proper procedure?

No, because the original video properties is probably giving you a portrait presentation and a custom video mode is for advanced users. If you are stumbling around like this, going deep into customization is not a good way. Just choose Video Mode > HD 1080p 24 fps

If that looks good, then choose Custom to reduce the resolution if you want: 568x320. Is it really that low res?

Ok. I understand. Very good. Thank you Shotcut and Daniel47.

Daniel47: Re: the 320x568 - When I first brought the clip in it looked like this…

Then I incorrectly used the rotate filter which left the resolution as 320x568.

Shotcut Leader: Yes, the res of the clip is that low. Sent by someone who had used an old phone cam.

Thanks again.
