Rich Text filter causes temporary freeze

Can you repeat the problem? If so, what are the steps?

Adding Rich Text filter to a clip causes the program to hang for approx 43 seconds. Also occurs whenever a clip with the filter is selected, or the play head crosses a clip with the filter during playback.

I have the same windows version and of course the same Shotcut version. Adding the Text: Rich filter takes less than a second on my computer.

Did you try again after rebooting your computer?

Dang. It must be something specific to my system. I just wonder what could possibly cause such a thing?

Edit: I just went through and loaded every single filter. There’s actual several that are causing the same problem for me. I wonder if the developer would know if there’s a common thread in all of these filters. I wonder if they are looking for something on the computer that for some reason isn’t there.

You have done some good investigation. Unfortunately, I do not see a common thread among those filters.

Some things you could try to learn more:

  • Disable antivirus and Grammarly (if you use it)
  • Try a different Display Method (in settings)

Also, the log you uploaded does not demonstrate that you tried to open a filter. Perhaps capture the log immediately after you experience the problem (before closing Shotcut).

Does this happen every time you add the filter? Or just sometimes?

I believe I have experienced a very similar issue but I didn’t report it because for me it is intermittent (I just tried reproducing it but it didn’t happen at all today) and I’m using an outdated dev build. I’ve only seen it on the official build with the GPS text filter and Mask Draw (glaxnimate) - but I don’t use any other from the list.

One possible common pattern on those filters (well besides text rich…) is that they use external files?

For me, when it hangs if I try to click anywhere on shotcut window again I eventually get a crash with this info in .rpt file. I don’t know if this info helps as it’s not from the official build, maybe the names give some hints or something.

I am also on Windows 1 x64 21h2 but build 19044.1806 (have some updates not installed right now).

In that file, I can see the sequence leading up to adding the rich text filter. Unfortunately, there is not a clue about why it crashed.
