[Reopen] Up and Down arrow keys don't switch tracks

Sorry for reopening an issue. This issue has been happening for a little under a month. It resolved itself last night immediately after I opened a bug, so I closed the thread. It’s now not working again.

What is your operating system?
Windows 10 22H2

What is your Shotcut version (see Help > About Shotcut)?
23.07.29
Behavior was present in 23.06.14 as well

Can you repeat the problem? If so, what are the steps?
I have a project with 1 video track and 3 audio tracks. I used to be able to use the arrow keys to switch the active track. For example, if I want to make a cut in the same place in all four tracks, I would hit ‘s’ ‘down’ ‘s’ down, etc., until I cut all four tracks. Likewise, I used to do the same thing when using x or z to remove the clips that I cut.

I checked the FAQ, and I see those commands are still listed:

  • Up and Down changes the current track

I believe the issue first appeared when I upgraded to 23.06.14. I just upgraded to 23.07.29 today, and the issue persists.

I have opened and closed Shotcut multiple times as well as restarting my computer, and I have made sure that the focus was on the timeline (left and right work to progress the timeline by a frame, Alt+left and Alt+right both work, and so do < and >. Only up and down are failing to change the track. Ctrl+up, Alt+shift+up also work. ctrl+up is the closest I have to a workaround at the moment, but it’s slower than up because it’s selecting a track instead of just moving the cursor.

I’m pretty sure it’s user error, since it just started working yesterday, and then stopped again this morning, but I have no idea what I’m doing wrong.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong are appreciated,
Thanks

The FAQ page you linked to is out date. I have made a note to fix it.

The default shortcut to change the current track is CTL-ALT-UP and CTL-ALT-DOWN

The best way to find the shortcuts are in the help menu under “Actions and Shortcuts” (or just hit the ? key)

In the actions and shortcuts dialog, you can easily search for shortcut keys. And you can even change them!

Workflow successfully restored. Thanks for your help! I even looked at the actions and shortcuts menu, and I didn’t realize that that was the right command. I was looking for one that had either up or down, or a black value in the keyboard shortcut.
