Problem with Shotcut version 26.4.30

Hello!

I am using Shotcut for quiet a time, making videos about our trips or about small aircraft. In my last project, I am trying to make another video about a small airplane. According to GDPR, I have to pixel the faces of persons that have not allowed to be captured by me. To do this, I always use the mosaic filter for the pixel size and a rectangular filter. In this video, I can achieve this goal using the mosaic and rectangle filters. Interestingly, it suddenly stops working in my short test project at the sixth second. The rectangle can be moved, but it is no more linked to the mosaic. Can anybody explain me why this is the case after 00:00:06.000?

BTW, there is a filter set exactly for this purpose that you can use in case you wonder if you are doing it wrong.

Does the trimming filters issue occur even when one addes a mosaic by [+] and then the rectangle in the same way? I tried both: adding both filters anew, and copying the filters from the part 0 – 0:05.967 to the part at 6 seconds. Both didn’t work. I had alot of problems with Shotcut, like crashing time and again, but never this problem.

EDIT: The problem now occurs at 00:00:00.400.

It might have something to do with the Stabilize filter and the order of filters, but I dd not recreate a problem there after substituting my own media:

I am able to move Crop: Rectangle and the Mosaic follows it. However, you have many keyframes (motion tracked?). Moving the rectangle on a single frame is not going to adjust all of the them. You could try disabling other filters such as Stabilize to see if it makes a difference. Otherwise, I suggest to not use the multiple tracks approach you are taking and to use same-track masking and the filter set instead:

I found a temporal solution. Without removing the copied footage that had the mosaic and the rectangle not masking anything before, I leaved there only the stabilize filter, and added a colour rectangle, defining it’s colour by taking the appropriate grey colour from the footage image. This colour filter has another rectangle (transparent) filter, which I use to pixelate the face of the pilot.

With the current bug, one should beware the “empty” rectangles, as it is not possible to cut the colour rectangle and remove it for the time it is unnecessary, as the part of the rectangle after the cut-out piece may not mask anything anymore. To get rid of empty-rectangle specles, one should move them by editing the coordinates to the side. I prefer x, y coordinates of (0, 0). The specles can be seen in this clip between the 5th and the 7th second.

The problem seems to be (as said above I guess) the stabilise filter. I add the copy of the clip above the clip (called H1 in the image above), add the mosaic and the rectangle filter, and start to mask after making the rectangle transparent. If this does not mask, removing the stabilise filter helps. Thanks!

If you use both the stabilise filter and need to obscure some parts (like faces), you may run in the same problems I had: unfitting obscuration and problems with stabilisation. If your obscuration is done on a separate video track, remove all stabilisation filters, if any, from these obscuration track(s). If the problem persists, you may use my workaround by forgeting about the obscuration process and concentrate on stabilisation. Then,

  • Export the video,
  • Make a new version of your project,
  • Add the exported video to your new project version
  • Delete all the clips of the V1 line,
  • Add the newly exported video instead of the clips
  • Continue now with the obscuration process.

As there are no stabilise filters anymore, you will not run into this problem.
