Open file by dragging it onto the app icon

I would like to be able to open a file by dragging it onto Shotcut’s dock icon on macOS (and maybe some Linux docks), like in most other apps.

On macOS, this already works for .mlt files only because I do not really want to maintain a huge collection of file type associations in the app’s Info.plist. I suppose I could reuse VLC’s. On Windows, this already works with any supported file type without really any effort on my part. On Linux, well, you know it all depends on which technology you are using. I am sure it works on some but perhaps not GNOME Shell.
