Is there a way to create a scrolling text [like the news ticker text we see on tv] in Shotcut. I am wanting to add scrolling across lower portion of 9:16 aspect ratio video that show voiceover in text form.
I found video “Add Crawling or Moving Text | Shotcut Tutorial” by Himel 365 but that is 2 years old and I am assuming things have changed since the video was published. It is not working for me at least.
Is maybe the problem in trying to do this in vertical 9:16 aspect ratio?
Battled with this for over a week now. Any suggestions or guidance would be highly appreciated.
I didn’t have the time to make a polished tutorial but I did make a very rough one, showing very quickly how I achieved it. I hope this might give you an idea how to approach it.
Steps in a nutshell:
Copy text into a simple text filter.
Increase the size to a large number (6,000 or 7,000).
Keyframe the text to go from 1,920 pixels to -6,000 pixels.
To slow the ticker tape scroll, increase the length of the text clip.
Good luck!
PS There’s a limitation on the number of characters (max. 256) you can have in a simple text clip. If you want more, add another text clip on the track above and continue the keyframing.
Here’s how I continued past the 256 character limitation, to add the rest of the text. It can be a little tricky getting the text to continue seamlessly. Trial and error is essential! I began by copying and pasting the text clip and putting it on a higher track.
[EDIT]: @barry, oops, I didn’t read what you said,
(I didn’t see “vertical”). No matter, the principle will be the same. Start your first keyframed text clip not from 1,920, then, but set it to the width of your video (say 350 pixels), just so that it begins off-screen to the right.
The Text: Rich filter doesn’t have this 256 character limitation. You can paste all the text you need (no line breaks). Just make sure you make the horizontal Dimension as wide as it needs to be, so the text is displayed on one single line. Then apply keyframes on the horizontal Position setting. From, for example: +1920px (width of the screen) to -XXXXpx (width of the text).
