I have tried over many weeks to understand what is happening with my keyframes. I have watched MANY vids and tutes, searched this Forum, and even asked Ai but can’t find the answer to my problem. My brain is about to burst into spontaneous combustion!
Here’s the issue:
I have an Audio file and a separate Video file with Scrolling Up Text.
No problem creating and getting each of these onto the timeline.
I have gotten to the point of listening to the Audio and setting up Keyframes as I adjust the Position of the Text to match the Audio.
(I don’t understand why the Audio track disappears and is replaced by the Keyframes track. Would be great to actually see the Audio track as well so I can accurately adjust the sync).
But, when I exit and reopen the project next day, the keyframes are no longer there - no sync, no visible keyframes (by opening filters). (If I click the little clock icon to allow me to setup keyframes, it asks the following (I can’t figure out how to attach an image here to show this):
”This will change all simple keyframes to compound ones. Are you sure you want to do this?” or something like that.
That does nothing except put me right back into starting over with creating keyframes.)
So, here’s the question:
How do I get to be able to see and edit these “Saved” keyframes? Where did they go???
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me as I don’t want to start over again (9th time).
No, I am not confusing the Keyframes and Timeline Panels. I understand they are different and I can clearly see the difference when I select one or the other from the tabs below the panels labelled “Keyframes, Timeline”. Am I getting this wrong?
The same issue however is still there when I select the Keyframes tab, or via the Views Menu, as I said in my question: I don’t understand why the Audio track disappears and is replaced by the Keyframes track. Would be great to actually see the Audio track as well so I can accurately adjust the sync.
I don’t understand why this is so.
Perhaps if I can separate the two panels I will be able to see the Audio track on the Timeline Panel?
How did you separate the two panels? I clicked on the Views as shown in your images, and tried to drag the Tabs, but I can’t separate the panels.
As mentioned before in my question: But, when I exit and reopen the project next day, the keyframes are no longer there - no sync, no visible keyframes (by opening filters).
This is still happening, so the Keyframes are no longer there and the sync is lost!
It means I cannot edit the existing Keyframes.
Frustrating, as it represents a couple of hours of work!
I do not understand why this is happening. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Shotcut, checked the saved Project file for corruption, checked the disk for status and all reports as OK
I do not understand why I am getting the message below as if I don’t click the icon I can’t change Position or set keyframes. If I click the little clock icon to allow me to setup keyframes, it asks the following (I can’t figure out how to attach an image here to show this:
”This will change all simple keyframes to compound ones. Are you sure you want to do this?” or something like that.
If I click NO, I can’t do anything with Position, or even add a new Keyframe.
If I click Yes, apparently it clears all my previous Keyframes. But they have disappeared anyway, so it means either way I have to spend the hours again to recreate them.
Then once Saved, the process is repeated as item 3 above!
5. How did you insert images in your post? I think it may be helpful to include an image, at least for item 4 above.
Thanks again for your reply and hopefully you can help me with the above.
This statement doesn’t make any sense to me. There is no such thing as a “keyframes track”. The timeline has “Audio” and “Video” tracks. The keyframes panel does not have tracks - but it has rows for each keyframe parameter.
Yes. This would be very helpful to understand your problem. If you are using windows, click the “Print Screen” button on your keyboard, This will copy an image of your screen to the clipboard. It might open the “Snipping Tool” which allows you to select an area to capture. After the picture is in your clipboard, you can simply “Ctrl-P” to paste it into the forum window. Presto.
This one is when I click on Keyframe Clock Icon in Filters for the Video on Timeline (Sorry, I’m a new User on the Forum, so can only insert 2 images. If you need this one, let me know and I can send it to you)..
I don’t see anything unexpected in your two screenshots.
If you click on the clock icon when it is not blue, you are telling Shotcut that you want to start using keyframes. If you click on the clock icon when it is blue, you are telling Shotcut that you want to stop using keyframes. Shotcut pops up the warning message to make sure you want to delete the keyframes. That is all expected behavior. If you have existing keyframes and you want to view the keyframes panel, just click on the tab for the keyframes panel, or choose it from the View menu.
The audio track is clearly showing in your Timeline panel. And we never show audio tracks in the Keyframes panel - only parameter rows. So I still can not see the problem you were reporting.
If you start another comment, you can add two more images to it.
Thanks, Brian.
Now that I understand more about the Keyframes, the problem is becoming clearer to me.
It is that the Keyframes disappear if I Save then Reopen the App. (Pics attached).
Also, that means it is not possible to edit or add a new Keyframe as they are no longer there!
Here is BeforeSave pic showing the Keyframes:
OK. Done. I set Keyframes and Savedc (to send to you). When I opened it, the Keyframes were gone!Hopefully, when you get it the Keyframes will either not be there, or be there!
Anyway, perhaps you can play with it as the Playlist Files SHOULD be in the Playlist Bin!
Thanks for providing the example project. It revealed a hidden hint that I could not get from the screenshot. It appears that your workflow is to start by choosing the “Scroll Up” preset and then adding keyframes. It appears we have a bug that converting a simple keyframe filter into an advanced keyframe filter is not removing the preset indicator in the mlt file. So, when you load the MLT file, it is reverting back to the preset that you started with and ignoring the advanced keyframes that you added.
I will mark this as a bug to revisit in the future.
In the meantime, the work-around would be to start with a new filter, and do not load the “Scroll up” preset. Just start adding advanced keyframes.
OK, I tried that workaround, but once I save and reopen, same situation exists:
I cannot edit or continue with the keyframes because they do not appear. Again, if I select the clock icon, it removes all my keyframes.
As this is a bug, do you have any idea of timeframe to have it fixed?
