.MP3 crashes 17.10 - Win10

I finished cutting my current project and now I want to do the music tracks. Except every time I open an .mp3 or drag one from Windows Explorer to the playlist, Shotcut crashes. The problem isn’t tied to one .mp3, it isn’t tied to a single HDD and it’s not tied to file size. FWIW the project is 1080p@59.94 fps. Is that frame rate causing problems?

I upgraded my Linux box to 16 Gb and started work on the current project. The first music track, an .MP3, crashes the Linux version of Shotcut, too. There’s no error message; Shotcut goes away. There’s nothing left on the desktop, or on the Activites list.

I converted .mp3’s. that crashed Shotcut, into .wav’s and there’s no problem. Either I missed that .mp3 isn’t supported or something’s buggy.

I just tested this and found out that it crashes if the MP3 has album art, Settings > Display Mode is set to Automatic, and you have not yet started a playlist or timeline project (which locks in the display mode). It may be possible even if one of these conditions is not met, but for me this is a sure combination. I think at the very least, the MP3 has album art.

I spot checked the .mp3’s used for the project and they do have artwork. A playlist was present, with one item (an earlier iteration of the video project including four audio tracks in addition to the video track’s audio track). I looked for Settings>Display Mode and don’t see it either under Ubuntu or Win10. FWIW GPU processing is enabled. I have Shotcut 17.10.2 installed on both machines. The Ubuntu instance is from the portable distro.

I just fixed the bug that affects all OSes since v17.03, and I uploaded a new v17.11.04 build as the new download for v17.11

Also, the next version will actually use the album art as video. However, that is a little riskier change to include now, I and wanted to urgently patch the crash that many could easily experience.

Great thanks for the update!
