I have been wondering for a while if this is possible on Shotcut. Whenever i ask online on other forums, most people never really understood what i meant/im not good at explaining. So i created a mockup. I want to be able to change the color of clips on the timeline so i can easily tell them apart. Specifically with telling apart a roll and b roll.
Hopefully my mockup helps show what I mean. Anything helps, i just want an answer lol.
Not possible currently.
You can change the clip names as they show in the timeline. This will not change your source media file names on your computer. It’s just for ease of use.

This panel, among all others (except the preview window) can be placed anywhere by dragging.
There is something on the Roadmap that might make this happen.
