Frame by frame reading

Hi there,

When I open a file (usually MPEG 2) and try to read it frame by frame, to find the exact frame I want to set my entry point on, it stucks on the first frame and then, after typing a few times on the left or right arrow, suddenly moves to the current frame. It’s quite annoying. Does anyone experience this same issue? How could I fix this?

I run Ubuntu 14.04.

hardware? slow cpu can be the issue

I don’t think so, it’s an i7 with 16GB RAM… The GPU is not very good but I don’t think it matters? Also, when playing a video, the reading is smooth, I guess that in case of hardware issue, I should experience some lags here and there?
