I have a movie with multiple clips each with different FPS speeds. What should my export FPS be. Do I use the slower FPS or the fastest FPS? Is there a differential that I should avoid?
There are a lot of variables.
If most clips are generally 30fps (just as an example) but there are a few 60fps clips that were intended for slow motion, then stay at 30fps. Don’t adjust FPS for the sake of a slow motion clip. Or a sped-up clip either. Since slow/fast clips are retimed, their FPS effectively changes anyway, so don’t make decisions based on them.
If most clips are generally 60fps but you’re borrowing footage from somebody else at 30fps, stay at 60fps. The 30fps will upscale to 60fps cleanly.
If there is a mix of 24fps and 25/30/60fps, then there aren’t many good or simple solutions. Use the FPS that’s most frequently used, knowing that it won’t be perfect no matter what you do.
Thanks. Mostly have 30 and 60 mix. I will experiment.
Completely agree with Austin but there is also the aspect of content. If you have lots of fast movements, camera turns or action it would be in general better to have 60 FPS. For all “normal” content 30 fps is absolutely fine. When using 60fps for nearly everything you just blow up your file sizes without much information or smoothness gain.
