Fade image starts as black

When I start a fade of an image or a transparent layer with text, it always starts with black. I was hoping it would start as transparent and then become more an more solid. Is this a known issue or a bug or is there a workaround?

There is a setting on the fade in / fade out filters for transparency.

This won’t work on track V1, as the effective background is always black.
