I deleted the original video file of my project by accident. When I export the project only the edited parts are shown and the rest is blank. The fact that I can see the whole project on the preview screen gives me hope that the footage isn’t completly lost but I can’t be sure. Is there a way to export the video without the original?
No.
The project .mlt file is just lines of code.
Do you have a backup copy of the original video?
Were you using proxy mode? If so, you could export at proxy resolution from the proxy files rather than the original deleted file. It wouldn’t look as crisp as the original, but it would be something.

Yes proxy mode is turned on. How exactly do I export the proxy files?
