Easy slishows with shotcut

Hi. I’m new with this software and this is for someone I know who have no experience whatsoever with video editing (I’m personnaly using Premiere Pro). Ok, So I was wondering if there are easy ways/templates included with Shotcut that allow a quick & easy slideshow creation for innexperienced users ? I haven’t found any information at all about this, yet.

Can anybody please help me with that ?

A slideshow generator is #12 on the Road Map. https://www.shotcut.org/roadmap/

I did a slideshow with about 40 photos recently. I changed the default duration of each slide to 10 seconds and then used the Page Up key to set a 30 frames overlap between slides. I left everything as a dissolve since that got the job done for me.

What is this “Road map” ? It looks like a useless page. Care to tell me more about it please ?

“Road Map” is a developer term for a priority list of feature enhancements. The most significant missing feature right now is keyframes. The good news is they are at the top of the list.

Ok. Got it. Without dissing on shotcut (which I hope that the updates will come soon) do you have any recommandation on an alternative free software that can handle slishows (or that is at least something similar to windows movie maker) ? Also, are there any stansition effects available in shotcut ?

Thanks to answer

Shotcut is still in development. Not all features have been implemented but it works very well at this stage of development. I capture DV/HDV tapes sometimes in Kino. I remember using Sony Vegas Movie Studio slideshow feature. It worked nicely but I haven’t used Windoze for 3 years, preferring Linux. Sorry, I don’t have a Linux recommendation for a slideshow creator.

Hi Ken,
How exactly did you use the Page Up key to set the overlap frames? I can’t figure it out. Shotcut 17.08 on Windoze 10.

Use the keyboard shortcuts. https://www.shotcut.org/howtos/keyboard-shortcuts/
After you have the first photo in the sequence on the Timeline set your “playhead” to the right-most end of the photo. Use Alt-Rightarrow or Leftarrow if it’s not already there. The Page Up key will move the playhead one second / 30 frames. That is the ideal dissolve time for me. Then add your next photo and drag it leftward to the location of the playhead. Once you get the sequence down the rest of the photos go together on the Timeline rather quickly.
