Difficulties to put a text on a video clip

Im using Win 7, 64 Bits

I’m using the latest version of shotcut (22.06.23)
I use french version but i do beleive this is not relevant.

I want to put some text on top of viideoclip so:

  • I create a new video track (V2) on to of the video track
  • I position the head where the text must appear
  • I use the functio “open other” then “TEXT” and the interfave for writing the text appears.
  • the rest of the procedure goes well for dimensening and positionnin the text. so at the end I try to drag an drop the text to the video track created before and in stead of OVERWRITING, it mentions INSERTING. so the text is inserted on all the video track.
    I use the previous version of shotcut 10 time according the procedure described in detail in the tutorial vidéo presented in shotcut tutorial page and it never failled before.

I tried with a video project done before same result with shotcut latest version, the text is not overwriting but inserted in the track!

Did I missed someting?

For queries like this it is always best to include a screenshot of the whole Shotcut window.

  • Select the Text clip.
  • Select the Text: Simple filter in the Filters panel.
  • Position the playhead so it is over the clip.
  • Take the screenshot (e.g. using the windows “Snipping Tool”)
  • Post the screenshot in a reply here.

Pour des requêtes comme celle-ci, il est toujours préférable d’inclure une capture d’écran de toute la fenêtre Shotcut.

  • Sélectionnez le clip texte.*
  • Sélectionnez le filtre Texte : Simple dans le panneau Filtres.*
  • Positionnez la tête de lecture de manière à ce qu’elle soit au-dessus du clip.*
  • Prenez la capture d’écran (par exemple en utilisant l’outil “Snipping Tool” de Windows)*
  • Postez la capture d’écran dans une réponse ici.*

Vérifie si les icônes “propagation” et “propager sur toutes les pistes” de la ligne de temps sont cochées ou pas, elles ont une incidence sur le comportement de Shotcut quand tu insert un élément dans la ligne de temps

Check if the “ripple” and “ripple all tracks” icons of the timeline are checked or not, they affect the behavior of shotcut when you insert an element in the timeline

Bonjour Kami,
C’était bien cela! Après avoir décoché les deux options, j’ai ou réaliser les textes sans problème. Grand merci pour cette explication, en effet c’est tout à fait logique! J’étais trop habitué a mon autre logiciel de montage.
Le tutoriel est bien fait et très clair.

Indeed it was the option, after removing these options, I could overwritte the text without difficuly.
