Confusing german language texts for Ripple buttons

I use Version 24.11.17 on ubuntu with German language.

I always wondered about a confused behaviour of the following two buttons. It did not fit to the button description.

In german language, the button descriptions of the two circles and the circle with star are:

Two circles, German: Überschreibendes Einfügen
Translated into English would be: Insert with overwriting

Original language text: Ripple (CTRL+R)

Circle with star, German: Nichtüberschreibendes Einfügen
Translated into English would be: Insert without overwriting

Original language text: Ripple All Tracks (CTRL+ALT+R)

These are complete different meanings. Than this be changed?

BTW: Which meaning has ripple here? I know ripple from electronics where it means the ripple on a current.

The meaning of Ripple is in the Glossary of the User Guide. The icon is meant to resemble what it looks like when you toss a rock into a pond.

In English, the one with concentric circles is the “Ripple” button and the one with the star/asterix (*) is “Ripple All Trcks”.

“Ripple” means that if you insert a clip between two other clips the clips to the right of the insert will move to the right to accomodate the new clip, rather than the new clip overwriting what is already in that position. So if your original clips looked like:

`[....clip A...][...clip B...]`

The new layout would look like:

[...clip A...][...new clip...][...clip B...]

Rather than:

[...cl[...new clip...][p B...]

In this context “ripple” means that the clips following the inserted clips

gently ripple, or flow, away from the disturbance caused by the insert.

“Ripple” only affects the track where you are inserting the new clip, unless you have also selected “Ripple All Tracks” - in which case the ripple effect affects all the tracks.

But the german popup texts are still wrong and confusing.

I switched to english until it is fixed. My brain is always confused with the german texts :wink:

The developers do not make the translations or change them. I doubt all translators frequently visit the forum to look for issues. The developers do not coordinate with translators.

So it is on me now to find out who is translating the strings?

Or can i change it by myself and send it back to you or somebody else?
