Proxy files are very useful for editing, however I wish there was a option / checkbox in the export ui to delete all proxy files after export. this saves alot of time rather than having to manually go into the folder to delete it, this could also be useful for if you end up forgetting that you enabled proxy and slowly fill up my storage with unneeded proxy videos.
I agree it would be nice to have a way to easily delete all proxy files. But sometimes, after a project is exported, we find that something is unexpected and we need to make a change and export again. A variation on this idea would be to have a button somewhere to clean all proxies that the user would have to manually click after they are absolutely certain that they won’t be needed again.
Here is a tip to manage proxy storage. Every time a proxy is used Shotcut update’s the file’s modified date/time. Use Settings > Proxy > Storage > Show to open a file manager window, sort by modified date/time. Note: the folder that opens depends on if you enabled Settings > Proxy > Storage > Use Project Folder and have a project open. Look for files that have not been modified over some time ago, like 30 days, or whatever floats your boat. Delete the old proxies.
Excellent tip, @shotcut. Thanks!
Agreed. I want to have control of when the proxies are deleted because I usually make many passes and export versions for one project.
Sometimes, I want to initially export so I can load it on YouTube and watch on a TV how the colors are rendered. Then I go back to the edit and make adjustments. I don’t want to come back to my edit and find out that all my proxies have been wiped and do that whole process all over again. I usually create a proxy folder where the original files are located and point the saved proxies there. Then when I’m DONE done, I delete the proxy folder manually. It gives me peace of mind that I have full control of all the files on my timeline.
