Appimages and portable tar do not work

I’m on Ubuntu 16.04, and have been using Shotcut-200927.glibc2.14-x86_64.appimage for a while with mostly-stable behavior.

I saw there was a newer version and downloaded it.

It does nothing. Zero. No behavior at all.

I’ve set permissions. I can right click in Files and is available but it does nothing.

The “portable tar” file also does not run.

Snap warns that the snap package is not secure and that shotcut refuses to obey sandbox boundaries. So, that’s out.

Has this software just dead-ended or is there a way to make it work?

You are running a version of ubuntu that is unsupported by shotcut, You need to have a ubuntu version that is higher than 18.04 or you need to at least have version 18.04.

Specifications on download page of shotcut:-

No, this software is under constant development with new versions being made available almost every month.
